Shannon Fraser discovered quilting somewhat by accident, thanks to a YouTube video. A true revelation that rapidly became her passion and her creative home. This modern quilting artist and designer also shares a host of content and tutorials on her blog and Instagram.

“ I didn’t have quilting in my life plan if you will. It really took me by surprise and it was something that I can’t imagine my life without. It’s six years in and I feel that I’m just scratching the surface as to what I want to learn and explore in this quilting world. ”
“One of the things that I have discovered in quilting : it is about actually the journey, it’s not about finishing something super quick and sitting down in a day and finishing a project. Quilting is not about that, but that’s the beauty of it. You are committing to something, you are investing your time, your energy and your creativity and at the end of it, you not only have a beautiful piece of art, you have a functional piece of art that you can snuggle on the couch with and be with your family, watch a movie or justread a book and you are wrapped in the comfort you have created. ”
“ What’s fun is that quilting is really about making it your own. You can be a traditional quilter, a modern quilter, a mash up of the two. It’s really about bringing your own unique spin and your own artistic take on either a pattern that you want to try or if you want to try improve quilting and just do your own quilty thing. “
“ My patterns really come through different design journey. Either from my own creative play or sitting at the computer and having an idea. But often it’s like a gut check. It’s not a tangible thing that I can name, It’s really more of a feeling that I go based out of. It’s an internal process for me of tuning in to what’s exciting me, what do I want to explore, what’s a challenge for me that needs to be tackled. “
“ Colour is definitely a big inspiration point. I think that there is something to be said about all the different colours that are out there to play with. What I find really fun about quilting is that you get to explore colours that you might not have thought that were your jam; that you wouldn’t find appealing. “
