Easter is a time celebrated with egg hunts, family gatherings and lots of chocolate. To add to the festive mood we’re bringing you a pretty Easter Bunny mask, fun for the whole family. This project is very quick and super easy! We’ve chosen to use contrasting topstitches to assemble the mask but you could just as well use glue and have your little bunnies help with the project! You can use the base pattern to create all kinds of other masks: superheros, princesses and all the amazing creatures your kids can come up with!
Level of difficulty: Beginner. Basic sewing machine skills required.
Time required: About 30 minutes
Materials:
- Felt:
- Light pink: 2 squares
- Dark pink: 1 square
- White: 1 square
- Elastic 1 cm wide: 50 cm (20 in)
- Tracing interfacing fabric scraps
- Perfect Baste temporary fabric adhesive
- Erasable pen
- Scissors or rotary cutter
STEP 1: Trace the pieces on the interfacing and cut them out. Spray Perfect Baste temporary adhesive between the two light pink felt squares and glue them together.
STEP 2: Trace the outline of the mask on the light pink felt using the erasable pen. Cut it out, leaving a seam allowance. Repeat for all the other pieces, making sure you use the right felt color for each piece. Cut these pieces along the lines.
STEP 3: Spray the temporary adhesive on the white cheeks/eyes piece. Place the piece on the light pink felt. Do the same for the white whiskers piece and place it on the white cheeks/eyes piece. Trace the eyes with the erasable pen.
STEP 4: Topstitch the outline of the mask with contrasting thread. Topstitch the cheeks and the eyes. Glue the nose and the inner ear pieces and topstitch them with contrasting thread.
STEP 5: Draw small dots with the erasable pen to mark where the whiskers will be. Make a tight zigzag stitch with grey threads to create the whiskers.
STEP 6: Trim the extra fabric all around the mask while making sure not to cut the topstitching. Sew the elastic on each side of the mask, in the back. The elastic’s length should corresponds to your child’s head circumference minus the width of the mask.
Here you go! Your Easter Bunny mask is done!
